Congratulations to UC San Diego’s Class of 2016. You are going to have a positive impact on our world, and we can’t wait to see the dent you will make. You are courageous and inventive, you push boundaries and challenge expectations, you drive innovation and forge your own trails.

Today, you join a highly esteemed community of 170,000 alumni, Tritons like you who are not afraid to take risks, and who learn from our successes as well as our failures. That is why Tritons have been able to reach the depths of our oceans and rocket into space, why we study the microscopic and the colossal. We will do what it takes to better understand our world, so we can make it better.

As new graduates, you are our future. I am proud of your hard work, and thank you in advance for your achievements that will change our world. And thank you to the family members and friends who have supported you throughout your education, and who are helping you to achieve your dreams.

Today truly is a momentous day, a celebration of you, and you will forever be a part of our Triton family.
