Chancellor’s Holiday Message 2014
December 11, 2014
As we approach the holidays and the year’s end, it’s an ideal time to reflect on all that we’ve accomplished and celebrated together over the past year. And we’ve had quite a few achievements. In addition to our ranking as the 14th best university in the world by the Center for World-Class Universities, U.S. News & World Report lists UC San Diego as the 8th best public university in the nation and placed our Health System first in the San Diego metropolitan area. These rankings are directly attributable to the talent and excellence of everyone at UC San Diego – from our bright students and successful alumni, to our stellar faculty, researchers and staff, to our exceptional and generous supporters.
This year, we commemorated UC San Diego’s 54th anniversary during our annual Founders Day Celebration, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Camp Matthews land transfer to UC San Diego. We welcomed more than 7,000 new students for the fall quarter, after wishing our graduates well as they transitioned from students to alumni in June. We enhanced college access and opportunity through the expansion of the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship program. We conducted groundbreaking research that advanced our knowledge, including taking a bold step in therapeutic stem cell science with our first three human safety trials. And we set the course for a bright future for our university through our first-ever Strategic Plan.
It has been a wonderful, exciting and successful year. Together, we are transforming lives and demonstrating what it means to be a public university that educates next-generation leaders and translates discoveries into life-improving technology, treatments and therapies. I thank you for all you do for our campus, community and world.
Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season,
Pradeep K. Khosla
Chancellor
