Typhoon Haiyan – Assistance for Campus and the Philippines

Last Friday Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest tropical cyclones on record, struck the Philippines. Powerful winds and a massive storm swept away small villages and devastated the city of Tacloban. Thousands of lives have been lost; many more are feared dead or missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced or left homeless. On behalf of UC San Diego, my heart goes out to all who have been affected by this tragedy.

The effects of Typhoon Haiyan will be felt throughout the Triton community. I want all to know that we are here to help and provide support. Students needing personal, academic or financial help should reach out to the colleges, the Office for Graduate Studies, and the Financial Aid Office. To discuss and understand emotions they may be feeling, students should contact Counseling and Psychological Servicers (CAPS). Faculty and staff seeking help should begin by contacting the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP).
