Transformative Ideas Generate Transformative Support

It is with tremendous gratitude that I announce UC San Diego’s fourth consecutive record-breaking fundraising year. For FY 2021, the university received $376.4 million in philanthropic support from alumni, students, parents, grateful patients, faculty, staff and friends, exceeding our $350 million annual goal for the first time.

Gifts to the Campaign for UC San Diego empower our Triton community to imagine, innovate and make our world a better place. The results speak for themselves. Just last week, U.S. News & World Report ranked UC San Diego Health no. 1 in San Diego and no. 5 in California. UC San Diego Health is among the nation’s best in 10 specialty areas, including pulmonology (9), geriatrics (13), cancer (17), and cardiology and heart surgery (23).

Philanthropy also supports our ongoing efforts to increase access to higher education for the next generation of changemakers. This year, we delivered big on that promise, admitting the most diverse and accomplished cohort in our history; more than one-third are from underrepresented groups. Our incoming first-year and transfer students will join an already high-achieving student body.

Donor support like this sends a message that big ideas are worth big investments, and UC San Diego is the destination for big ideas, world-class education and cultural and community engagement. In many ways, philanthropy is an extension of the collaboration that UC San Diego is known for. Our donors collaborate with our brilliant faculty, researchers and experts in bringing big ideas to life through their gifts, and in doing so, ensure that we are able to achieve our strategic objectives.

I invite you to learn more about the many programs, initiatives and investments that are underway as a result of this record-breaking year. The impact of your contributions is far reaching and significant. Thank you to each and every one of you who contributed to our Campaign for UC San Diego last year. I continue to be blown away by your generosity. Our work is not yet done.
