Sharing UC San Diego’s Community Outreach and Impact

At today’s University of California Board of Regents meeting, Chancellor Khosla provided a presentation on UC San Diego’s community outreach and impact.  He talked about UC San Diego’s efforts to improve college access and affordability—particularly for local students from underserved communities—including the creation of the Chancellor’s Associates Scholarship.  Two student scholars joined him at the meeting to talk about the impact of the scholarship on their lives.  The Chancellor then highlighted numerous campus partnerships that have increased educational opportunities throughout San Diego County, including Birch Aquarium’s K-12 ocean science outreach.  The future Innovation, Cultural and Innovation Hub was also cited as an example of UC San Diego’s efforts to connect a wide range of campus programs to the downtown innovation community and more closely link diverse neighborhoods throughout San Diego’s urban core. In seeking Regental approval for the Campaign for UC San Diego, the Chancellor gave a second presentation about the launch of the public phase of the campaign next week, expressing the importance of the fundraising initiative for the transformation of our campus and our greater community.
