The first phase of UC San Diego’s new Mesa Nueva Housing project is now open and students are already moving in. Yesterday, Chancellor Khosla joined Dean of the Graduate Division Kit Pogliano, Graduate Student Association President Mark Derdzinski and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Housing, Dining and Hospitality Mark Cunningham to celebrate the new graduate and professional student community. The Chancellor talked about the importance of adding housing to enhance the student experience, build a sense of community and provide a four-year housing guarantee, which will help to recruit and retain the best students. He also emphasized Mesa Nueva Housing is part of our overall efforts to transform our campus, physically and intellectually.
Once the entire project is complete, Mesa Nueva will house nearly 5,000 graduate students. Additionally, the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood, which will break ground in the coming months and be the new home for Sixth College, will add 2,000 beds for undergraduates.
