Expanding Educational Opportunities

Chancellor Khosla with Mayor Kevin Faulconer and UC San Diego Dean of Extension Mary Walshok at Malcolm X Library

UC San Diego is committed to serving our local community through education and research.  That is why we are partnering with the City of San Diego to expand our Network of Education x Training (Library NExT) pilot program, which provides middle and high school students with unique opportunities and classes in STEAM education at local libraries, as well as college planning, test preparation and workforce development.  Chancellor Khosla and Mayor Kevin Faulconer talked today about the success of the pilot program—which began at the Central Library in downtown San Diego—before announcing the expansion to more libraries in diverse communities throughout our region, including Malcolm X Library.  So far, the program has reached more than 150 students from 32 different middle and high schools.

Chancellor Khosla, Dean Mary Walshok, and Mayor Faulconer participate in a science experiment with NExT students.
