UC San Diego’s Founders Celebration is taking place this week with the Founders Symposium at Birch Aquarium last night, the Founders Faculty Celebration this afternoon and the Founders Festival.  This year’s commemoration marks the university’s 56th anniversary.  The symposium featured three main faculty speakers – Professors Kang Zhang, Christina Gremel and Mark Hanna – who talked about their revolutionary research, as well as interactive exhibits.  Four Revelle Medals were awarded at the Founders Faculty Celebration to recognize visionary faculty with a record of accomplishment in advancing UC San Diego’s mission; the recipients are Y.C. Fung, Veerabhadran Ramanathan, Roger Reynolds and Palmer Taylor.  The Founders Festival was held in Town Square with free food, live music and numerous affinity booths.
