Chancellor Khosla welcomes elite swimmers from all over the world to UC San Diego.
Chancellor Khosla visited Canyonview Pool on Friday afternoon to meet with the UC San Diego Swimming & Diving Team, as well as Olympic and world champion medalist swimmers from all over the world – including China, Israel and Japan – who are on campus training for the Olympics. After speaking with our team and sharing how proud he is of our student-athletes, the Chancellor had the opportunity to welcome the international swimmers and speak with several members of the Chinese swim team members, including the coaches, sharing that UC San Diego values academic and athletic exchanges with China. The group from China then presented the Chancellor with a swim cap, t-shirt, banner and hat. The international swimmers are training at UC San Diego because of our Head Coach for Swimming and Diving David Marsh’s history of coaching Olympic medalists.

Each year, the UC San Diego Academic Senate recognizes two faculty members for their significant contributions to academic excellence in research and groundbreaking discoveries. This year’s honorees – Professors Rommie Amaro and Thomas Levy – were celebrated yesterday at a reception at the Faculty Club and they both presented lectures on their research. Chancellor Khosla opened the program by congratulating the honorees. He said an outstanding faculty is the hallmark of any great university and this honor is given to our most illustrious colleagues.
