UC San Diego scholarship recipients mingled with the generous people who invested in their education at the “Hearts and Scholars” dinner. The annual event is an opportunity for students – and the university as a whole – to thank our donors who provide private support for scholarships and who have helped UC San Diego become a world-class institution. Chancellor Khosla told the crowd that one of the greatest gifts a person can give is the gift of education and opportunity.
Former Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher joined the reception live by Skype.
The Chancellor’s Community Advisory Board hosted a reception on campus for San Diego’s newly elected officials. Attendees included state, county and city representatives. Chancellor Khosla congratulated the new government officials and talked about the importance of working together to support higher education. He also recognized former Senator Christine Kehoe and former Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher for their public service and championship of UC San Diego.
“I urge you to help us, to work with us and to work with each other, to preserve this amazing higher education system. We are the envy of the entire country, and we need to maintain our excellence.” - Chancellor Khosla
The 2013 UC San Diego United Way/CHAD Campaign is officially underway and will continue through April 12. At the annual kick-off breakfast, the Chancellor addressed UC San Diego’s steering committee and department coordinators, thanking them for their volunteer service to help raise funds and awareness for the United Way. UC San Diego is ranked the 14th top contributor in our region to the United Way.
