Chancellor Khosla recently visited Tijuana to learn more about industry, healthcare and education across the border and the many partnerships UC San Diego has in Mexico.  The one-day tour included visits to Hospital Angeles Tijuana, the Health Frontiers in Tijuana Clinic, the Business Innovation and Technology Center, El Florido Parque Industrial and the Culinary Art School.

As he met with community and business leaders from the various organizations, Chancellor Khosla talked about the importance of our cross-border partnerships, and how they are vital for the economic and social growth and prosperity of our regions.

While visiting the Hospital Angeles Tijuana, Chancellor Khosla met Dr. Jorge Luna, Vice President for Education and Training for the system.

Chancellor Welcomes High School Students from Southern California

UC San Diego hosted this year’s student leadership conference for the Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel’s Southern California chapter.  More than 500 high school students from San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange Counties’ TRiO programs attended the event.  The program focused on leadership skills and career pathways to science, technology, engineering and math fields.  Chancellor Khosla stopped by the conference to welcome the students to our campus.  The keynote speakers included San Diego Mayor Bob Filner and Professor Angelica Gutierrez from Loyola Marymount University College of School of Business.

Chancellor Khosla and California State Senator Ben Hueso were among the participants at the recent Food and Fuel for the 21st Century Symposium.  The Senator was on campus to gain a deeper understanding of the growing field of algae production as a benefit to energy, environmental and economic issues.

Senator Hueso visited an algae laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Cal-CAB algae ponds on campus before attending the symposium, where he talked about the value of collaboration among government, academia and the private sector.  Chancellor Khosla also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships and touted UC San Diego’s unique strengths across disciplines in educating our next generation leaders who will address complex global challenges.
