Visionary thought leaders from around the world and our region are gathering at UC San Diego for a three-day conference, The Atlantic Meets the Pacific, to talk about exciting research and discoveries in science, health and technology. The acclaimed program brings together several dozen world-class innovators, including UC San Diego faculty, whose specialties range from advances in cancer treatments and longevity research to wireless health and brain mapping. At last night’s opening session, Chancellor Khosla applauded the organizers, speakers and attendees for addressing complex societal challenges in collaborative and groundbreaking ways. This is the third annual innovation conference hosted by UC San Diego in partnership with The Atlantic magazine.

UC San Diego is celebrating California Native American Day with an extended calendar of events throughout the academic year. The first event, a kickoff luncheon, took place today at the International Center. Chancellor Khosla joined campus and community members in honoring the culture and history of Native Americans. During the program, the Chancellor told the crowd that it is our responsibility, as a top-notch public university, to ensure that diversity, inclusion, access and affordability are priorities. Chancellor Khosla, Executive Vice Chancellor Suresh Subramani and the Faculty Club hosted a special reception last night to welcome new faculty and congratulate faculty members celebrating career milestones.
