Recognizing Exceptional Support and Service

“UC San Diego is the world-class university it is today because of the talent of our campus members and the generous support of our university friends.” – Chancellor Khosla

Chancellor Khosla presents the Chancellor's Medal to Carol Vassiliadis, Matt Grob of Qualcomm, and UC San Diego Professor Rommie Amaro, who accepted on behalf of the Hellman Family Foundation.

The Chancellor’s Medal is one of the highest honors given by UC San Diego for exceptional service in support of the university’s mission.  It is awarded every year at the Founders Celebration dinner, which took place on Saturday night.  This year's recipients are Carol Vassiliadis, Qualcomm Incorporated, and the family of Chris and Warren Hellman.

Vassiliadis has supported UC San Diego across numerous fields, from history to medicine.  Most recently, she donated to Jacobs Medical Center, naming the A. Vassiliadis Family Pavilion for Advanced Surgery for her husband and family.  Qualcomm Incorporated, the first corporation ever to receive the honor, was recognized for playing a pivotal role in UC San Diego’s rise to become a top 10 public university.  The family of Chris and Warren Hellman, who established the Hellman Fellows Fund, were honored for their support of talented scholars as they push the frontiers of knowledge on their path toward tenure.  Read more about this year’s medalists.
