Encouraging Our Future Engineers

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers held a regional leadership development conference on our campus over the weekend.  More than 300 students from UC San Diego and regional universities attended the three-day event, which featured numerous workshops, panels, poster exhibits and a career fair.  Several esteemed business leaders and faculty also were on hand to share their expertise and serve as keynote speakers, including Dr. Irwin Jacobs, founding Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Qualcomm, Inc.  Chancellor Khosla also addressed the students, encouraging them to continue their higher education in engineering and other STEM fields, and to consider UC San Diego for graduate school.

The Society’s mission is to empower the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.

UC San Diego student and conference chair Faviola Loera interviewed Dr. Irwin Jacobs.
