Celebrating Achievements that Benefit Our World

Chancellor Khosla meets Kyoto Prize recipient Michel Mayor.

UC San Diego joined San Diego State University, University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University in hosting a three-day celebration of the lives and works of this year’s Kyoto Prize recipients.  The Kyoto Prize is awarded annually to individuals who contribute significantly to the scientific, cultural and spiritual betterment of humankind.  Michel Mayor, one of this year’s recipients and one of the world’s most renowned astrophysicists for planetary discovery, shared his research during a lecture at UC San Diego last week; he was the first to discover a planet outside of our solar system orbiting a sun-like star.  The event drew a wide range of attendees, from faculty, staff and campus leaders, including Chancellor Khosla, to local high school students.
