Famed oceanographer Walter Munk is turning 100 years old today. He is a beloved scientist and UC San Diego’s oldest living alumnus. As part of his centennial celebration, hundreds of people gathered yesterday at the La Jolla Shores boardwalk for the unveiling of Walter Munk Way, part of the City of San Diego’s honorary street naming program. The newly named stretch of boardwalk honors Munk’s eight decades of research that continues to impact our world and inspire many. At the event, Chancellor Khosla talked about his admiration of Munk’s consistent curiosity, courage and commitment to scientific investigation.
