Campus Kicks Off César Chávez Month Celebration

“We are proud to celebrate the life and legacy of César Chávez at UC San Diego.  Our month-long series of events honor his achievements, raise awareness about the struggle for equal rights, and underscore our campus’s commitment to equity, service and community engagement.”  - Chancellor Khosla

More than 200 staff, faculty, students and community members attended UC San Diego’s César Chávez Month kickoff lunch in the Price Center East Ballroom on April 3.  Chancellor Khosla welcomed the crowd and encouraged everyone to take part in the series of events the campus is hosting to recognize and honor the life and achievements of the human rights champion and labor leader.  Hilda Solis, the first Latina to serve as Secretary of the Department of Labor, was also at the lunch.  Later in the evening, she was the featured speaker at the Helen Edison lecture, co-sponsored by the César Chávez Month Planning Committee.
