Chancellor Khosla is creating a new program—The Chancellor’s Guild—to offer students the unique chance to represent UC San Diego at campus events, including those held at Audrey Geisel University House. Applications for next year are being accepted now through Friday, June 23. Students will be selected based on academic standing (3.0 minimum GPA), ability to communicate their knowledge of and pride in UC San Diego, proven leadership skills, and willingness to work together to advance our campus. Chancellor’s Guild ambassadors will have opportunities to network with current and prospective students, alumni and donors, while also broadening their UC San Diego experience. Students passionate about representing UC San Diego are invited to apply today.

The 36th annual Spark Gala was held over the weekend to benefit patient care and research at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, one of the top 25 centers in the country. Chancellor Khosla talked about the progress we’ve made in the fight against cancer and attributed it to our talented faculty and care teams, as well as the generous support of our community. At this year’s event, the inaugural Champion of Hope award was presented to the daughters of Pauline Foster in honor of their mother’s dedicated philanthropy to UC San Diego.

I stand by our students who are calling for fossil fuel divestment and support their aims. I furthermore wish to acknowledge the professors and staff at this campus and across the University who deeply care about the moral, political, economic, and scientific imperative of moving away from fossil fuel dependency. I am pleased to support the incredible efforts the UC has already made toward tackling climate change and providing leadership and solutions that we will all depend on. In the coming week, I look forward to working with my fellow chancellors in support of a thorough and transparent discussion on divestment from fossil fuels as part of the UC’s approach to combating the climate crisis.
