Students explain to Chancellor Khosla the history and significance of the Chicano Legacy Mural on campus.
Chancellor Khosla met with Chicano/a and Latino/a students, staff, faculty and community members on Saturday, Oct. 6, to learn more about their heritage and culture.
He started the day with members of the San Diego County Chicano/Latino Concilio on Higher Education and then visited the Chicano Legacy Mural on the UC San Diego campus, where students explained the history and significance of the artwork. Khosla said, “I love this mural. Every time I walk by, I stop and look at it. And each time, I see something new. Now, I appreciate the depth of this piece even more.” The group then traveled to Chicano Park in Barrio Logan to see the murals that inspired the artwork on the UC San Diego campus and attended a luncheon at Barrio Logan College Institute. Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla will soon lead the campus through a strategic planning process to create a shared vision for the future of UC San Diego. The process will be an exercise of collaboration, and all campus members will have an opportunity to be involved and provide input. In this video, Khosla talks about the importance of developing a strategic plan and why the time is right to establish shared goals.
Chancellor Khosla visited the La Jolla Health System campus on Oct. 5 to learn more about UC San Diego Health System's history, facilities and programs. He toured the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center and Thornton Hospital, and got an update on the future of the UC San Diego Jacobs Medical Center.
