Standing Up Against Violence

“We can achieve so much more by working together, helping each other and learning from one another.” - Chancellor Khosla

Chancellor Khosla was a featured speaker at the launch event for The Art of Living Foundation’s new campaign, “Non-Violence: No Higher Calling,” at Balboa Park.  The goal of the campaign is to encourage one billion acts of nonviolence.  It was inspired by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a renowned spiritual leader and global humanitarian, who also spoke at the event.  Other distinguished speakers included Mayor Bob Filner and Superintendent-Designate of San Diego Unified School District Cindy Marten.

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner presented a proclamation to His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Blazing a Trail in Education Leadership

Chancellor Khosla and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Suresh Subramani were honored at a March 24 reception for being trailblazers in education leadership.  The event was co-hosted by the San Diego Indian American Society and the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association.  Earlier in the day, Chancellor Khosla was the Chief Guest at the Society’s annual Unity in Diversity dance showcase, “Rhythms of Asia,” which featured several different styles of dancing.

Engaging Young Minds in Science and Engineering

More than 55,000 kids, parents, educators, scientists and community members participated in the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering this year.  The week-long festival culminated with Expo Day at Petco Park on March 23.  Kids of all ages learned more about science and engineering by engaging in hands-on experiments and interactive demonstrations.  Chancellor Khosla stopped by the Expo Day and visited some of the UC San Diego booths.  He also spoke at the Expo Day lunch for festival partners.  The festival was created to get kids excited about STEM fields and demonstrate the importance of science and engineering in people’s lives.

UC San Diego hosted 16 booths at Expo Day. Several campus leaders, scientists and engineers also attended the Expo Day lunch including Charles Tu, Shu Chien, Sandra Brown and Pradeep K. Khosla.
