Prestigious Honor Society Initiates New Members

The nation’s most prestigious undergraduate honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, initiated a new group of members last night at UC San Diego.  The Sigma Chapter inductees were invited into the society because of the excellence of their academic record, the breadth and quality of their courses taken, and their good character.  Each initiated student was presented with a special ribbon insignia to wear at commencement.  Chancellor Khosla stopped by the ceremony to congratulate the new members.  He was also surprised at the event when he was told that he’d been made an honorary member.

At the annual Breakfast of Champions today, dozens of UC San Diego student-athletes and coaches were recognized for having reached national championship status in their sport this year.  Chancellor Khosla congratulated and thanked the team members for contributing to the success of UC San Diego Athletics and enhancing our school pride.  For the sixth year in a row, UC San Diego was ranked first in the Division II Power Rankings, which measures the combination of competitive excellence, academic prowess and graduation rate.

UC San Diego Graduates Next Generation of Physicians

Hundreds of proud family members and friends flocked to the UC San Diego campus over the weekend to congratulate the School of Medicine’s newest graduates – now doctors.  The school’s commencement weekend began with a Senior Banquet last Thursday and then a Senior Awards ceremony on Saturday, which recognized the graduates’ range of talent and accomplishments – from clinical and research excellence to admirable characteristics like compassion and humanism.  The commencement ceremony for the 130 men and women took place on Sunday.  Chancellor Khosla conferred the degrees and expressed his admiration for their passion, determination and hard work.
