Welcoming the R/V Sally Ride to San Diego

Hundreds of people lined the La Jolla coastline and Scripps Pier to welcome the research vessel Sally Ride to San Diego for the first time.  The vessel perched off the south side of the pier for about an hour, honking a few hellos to the people on the shore while they waved and cheered.  The crew also showed off the ship’s impressive turning radius with a pirouette.  Chancellor Khosla, Vice Chancellor Margaret Leinen, Scripps Director's Council Chair Steve Strachan and the world’s greatest living oceanographer Walter Munk were among the throngs of welcomers.
