You can be the first to catch a glimpse of America’s newest research vessel Sally Ride in San Diego as she cruises by UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography this afternoon around 4 p.m. The ship will sound a whistle blast as it passes by and heads to its homeport at the Nimitz Marine Facility in Point Loma. Just last week, R/V Sally Ride stopped in San Francisco while making its way south from its construction site in Anacortes, Washington. One of the most technologically advanced oceanographic research vessels in the world, the R/V Sally Ride is owned by the U.S. Navy and operated by UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Check out this video tour of the ship created by Wired. Public tours will be held this fall.
