Updated at 10:00am on May 16:  The UC San Diego campus and our Health System hospitals and clinics remain open.  We continue to be in contact with County and fire officials to monitor the fires and air quality conditions.  There is no immediate danger to the UC San Diego campus.  Read previous blog posts here.

Updated at 9:30pm on May 15:  We continue to monitor the fires burning in our County and air quality conditions in our region.  The campus and UC San Diego Health System hospitals and clinics remain open and are not in immediate danger.

Updated at 4:30pm on May 15:  At present, several fires still continue to burn in San Diego County, affecting some of our campus community members and supporters.  We appreciate your continued compassion and flexibility as these individuals contend with home evacuation orders, childcare issues and travel difficulties.  As the UC San Diego campus is not in immediate danger, the campus remains open, as does our Health System hospitals and clinics.  Classes and regular operations will continue as scheduled.  We encourage our campus members to heed local warnings and air quality alerts, and to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.  For up-to-date information on the fires and local impacts, visit the County’s Emergency website.  In the coming days, UC San Diego’s Human Resources will provide information on Blink about campus resources for those affected by the fires.  We will continue to provide updates, as needed.

Updated at 7:15 am on May 15: At this time, the UC San Diego campus and the UC San Diego Health System hospitals and clinics remain open.  Classes and regular operations will continue as scheduled. Supervisors and faculty are urged to be flexible with the needs of our employees and students due to home evacuation orders, road closures, childcare concerns and other fire-related issues. We encourage our campus members to heed local warnings and exercise caution. As the San Diego Unified School District has closed all of its schools today, the Preuss School UCSD will also be closed today. A list of wildfire resources can be found on Blink.

Updated at 9:45pm on May 14:  At this time, the UC San Diego campus remains open.  Classes and regular operations will continue as scheduled.  Supervisors and faculty are urged to be flexible with the needs of our employees and students.  Some of our campus community members are affected by the fires still burning in the County and they could face home evacuation orders, and childcare and travel issues.  We encourage our campus members to exercise caution. Updated at 4:30pm on May 14: As numerous fires continue to burn in San Diego County, supervisors are once again reminded to be flexible as employees need to evacuate their homes, ensure the safety of their family members and pets, and care for children whose schools are closed due to the fires. At present, six fires are burning, at least 30 homes have been destroyed and thousands of people are under orders to evacuate.  For up-to-date information on the fires and available resources, visit the San Diego County Emergency website at http://sdcountyemergency.com.  We are also providing campus updates on the Blink website at http://blink.ucsd.edu.  The UC San Diego campus is not in immediate danger and remains open.  Classes will continue as scheduled.  The UC San Diego Health System hospitals and clinics also remain open, including the UC San Diego Regional Burn Center.  The Hospital Command Center has also been activated to address the operational needs of our hospital and clinic locations throughout the region.  We are in contact with fire officials and continue to monitor the progression of the fires.  As further updates are available, we will post notifications on Blink.  In addition, the Triton Alert system will be activated if we need to issue emergency notifications.  You are encouraged to sign up for the Triton Alert system at http://blink.ucsd.edu/safety/emergencies/campuswide/.  More information will be forthcoming, as needed, from UC San Diego Human Resources to explain resources available to our campus community.  Please stay safe.

Updated at 11am on May 14: The UC San Diego campus, and the entire San Diego region, is still on high alert for fire danger while we continue to experience high temperatures and strong winds in our region.  We are in contact with fire officials and will monitor the situation over the next couple of days, until the high temperatures and Santa Ana winds are expected to abate.  If further updates are needed, we will post notices on Blink.  In addition, the Triton Alert system will be activated if we need to issue emergency notifications.  You are encouraged to sign up for the Triton Alert system here.
