Forging a New Trail

Chancellor Khosla, VC – Marine Sciences Margaret Leinen and South Coast Regional Manager for the California Coastal Conservancy Joan Cardellino (middle) cut the ribbon for the trail.

UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography is home to a newly created trail that expands public access of the campus and offers magnificent views of the ocean and Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier.  The official opening of the Scripps Coastal Meander Trail took place yesterday.  Chancellor Khosla was on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.  He talked about the importance, as a public research university, of sharing our campus, resources, knowledge and discoveries with our community members.  The new trail at Scripps is part of the California Coastal Trail, a network of public trails along our state’s 1,200 mile coastline.
