UC San Diego Associated Students invited Chancellor Khosla to a recent meeting to discuss issues pertaining to student life and opportunities for students. The Chancellor began by providing details about the Campaign for UC San Diego – which will enter the public phase next month – and the current and future physical transformation of the campus. These efforts will enhance the student experience by providing more student scholarships and resources, as well as more housing, classroom space, teaching labs and amenities for students. The student leaders followed up by asking questions about a range of topics – from parking and alumni fundraising efforts to time-to-degree initiatives.

Every year, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion hosts an annual Women Faculty Reception. It is an opportunity to celebrate gender diversity and excellence, foster networking across disciplines and strengthen our community of support. At last Wednesday’s reception, Chancellor Khosla and VC Becky Petitt joined 90 female faculty at the Faculty Club to show their support and redouble the university’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
They shared the university’s recent efforts to offer flexible family accommodations and announced the new Academic Women’s Network, an opportunity for women faculty to coalesce and continue building a support network on campus. Professor Kim Barrett also gave a talk about women in academic leadership, sharing insights from her 10 years as an academic administrator.

Endowed chairs are critical to UC San Diego’s research endeavors, as they allow the university to recruit and retain top scholars who are at the forefront of their fields. This week, the Chancellor attended a reception at the Jacobs School of Engineering to celebrate the inaugural appointment of Ravi Ramamoorthi to the newly established Ronald L. Graham Endowed Chair of Computer Science & Engineering, named in honor of CSE Professor Emeritus Ron Graham. The Chancellor recognized the important research and contributions of both professors – to our campus and to their field. He also shared that increasing the number of endowed chairs at UC San Diego is an important priority in The Campaign for UC San Diego, which will enter the public phase next month.
