$100 Million Gift Will Advance Stem Cell Research, Transform Lives

“One of our goals at UC San Diego is to translate research discoveries into therapies that will transform and save lives. Today, we are one giant step closer to achieving that goal and fulfilling the promise of stem cell research.” -  Chancellor Khosla

Chancellor Khosla held a news conference today to announce that businessman and philanthropist Denny Sanford has committed $100 million to the creation of the Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center at UC San Diego.  The Sanford Center will bring the promise of stem cell research to patients in San Diego and across the world by accelerating the development of clinical trials, drugs and cell therapies inspired by, and derived from, current human stem cell research.  During the press event, Chancellor Khosla thanked Denny Sanford for his kindness, generosity and vision, and he said that the Sanford Center will allow us to deliver new cures and therapies to the people who need it most.
